Marvel was started in 1939 as Timely Comics and by 1951 had generally become known as Atlas comics. In 1961, the Marvel era began and with the help of Stan Lee they forever changed the landscape of superhero comics. Today, Marvel is one of the most recognized brands in the world.
DC is one of the oldest American comic book companies, with their first book being published in 1937. DC is most well known for Batman and Superman, but also ushered in the Silver Age of comic books by updating and modernizing their Golden Age characters which led to widespread change in the industry.
